Current Beauty Favorites

Well I told you I’d be back soon with more content, didn’t I?

While going through my previous blog posts to get rid of The Bad & The Ugly, I realized I’ve never done a monthly favorites post. To be honest, I don’t really have any plans to start at this point (especially since Youtube’s got that more than covered… ) That being said, I recently acquired a lot of wonderful new products since my birthday & thought I’d (more…)

Project “Use It Up”

Since the start of the new year, I’ve had this overwhelming desire to get rid of all this stuff I have. Before organizing, however, one must purge. So as I was going through all these things, I realized I had a lot of unfinished beauty products. One of my biggest problems is that I can’t resist a sale (at one point, I had 7 different laundry detergent bottles– I don’t know what I was thinking. Nobody needs that much. It was so bad I was giving them away!). So, in order to declutter my life (and win back my bathroom and closet space…), I’ve decided to start a “Project Use It Up” of my own. Here are the details:

The Rules:
-Products have to be completely finished and not “almost finished” or “showing pan”.
-An item can only be replaced once it is completely used up and only if I don’t
already have another on standby. For example, I already have other mascaras and eye shadows, so once I finish the ones in this challenge, I still won’t buy new ones. Instead, I’ll work on finishing the old ones as well.
-Once a product is used up, I must review it.
-This project (and future ones) may include items of all sorts and not just those pertaining to beauty.  Example: Candles, books, discontinued items, etc.

The Products:
-Annabelle Single Eye shadow in 101 (Bronze)
-Freeman Beauty Facial Enzyme Mask – Pineapple
-Freeman Beauty Charcoal & Black Sugar Polishing Mask
-Freeman Beauty Body Sugar Scrub – Pomegranate
-Hard Candy “Brows Now!” Brow Fiber Gel + Highlighter
-Maybelline “Fit Me” Pressed Powder in Coconut – 355
-Maybelline “The Rocket Volum’ Express” Mascara
-Nivea Vanilla & Macadamia Lip Butter
-Soap & Glory “Scrub ‘Em & Leave ‘Em” Body Buff
-Surgi Waxing Kit
-The Body Shop Brazil Nut Body Butter

I’ll keep you posted to let you know how the challenge is going. Can’t wait to get rid of all this extra stuff and get to organizing! If you have any great storage/ organization tips (for cosmetics or not), please be sure to leave a comment below.

Everyday Beauty Essentials

I’ve gone through a slew of beauty products over the years because I’m constantly searching for something better than what I’m currently using. Though I’ve encountered a few misses, I’ve also come across some wonderful hits, so I thought I’d share them with you. So without further a do, here is personal list of everyday beauty essentials.

Huggies baby wipes:
I like these because they’re just as good as makeup removing wipes without the jacked up price. I usually get mine at the dollar store so they’re even cheaper. I recommend getting the natural ones because they have a lot less in them ingredient-wise, but I just love the shea butter scented ones!

L’Oréal Touche Magique Perfecting Base:
I’ve recently rediscovered this product and I absolutely love it! I was looking for a primer that would extend the life of my foundation and it definitely does just that. My only qualm is that it’s advertised solely as a “perfecting base” and not as a “lasting primer”, but I think people would gravitate towards it more if they knew it made your makeup last all day, as well. Word of advice: A little goes a long way, so don’t over do it. Especially if youère a woman of color. If you do, you’ll wind up looking pale and ashy because of its pink cast. Trust me. I know.

Cosmetic Sponges:
I like to apply my foundation with a damp sponge for more natural looking coverage. I’m currently using Real Techniques Pefect Complexion Sponge but I much prefer triangular sponges. I usually get mine at (surprise, surprise) the dollarstore.

L’Oréal True Match Foundation:
I used to hate this foundation– then I realized I was wearing the wrong shade, got the right one and I’ve been using it ever since! It offers just the right amount of coverage and looks flawless all without costing a fortune.

Maybelline “Define-A-Brow” Eyebrow Pencil:
My best friend Vanessa put me on to this eyebrow pencil a few months ago. I like it because it’s the only thing that doesn’t make my brows look heavily filled in. I always buy it in “Light Brown” because I can never find it in “Medium Brown” in stores but honestly, there’s hardly any difference between the two shades.

Annabelle blush in “Rosewood”:
It’s just the perfect color for a natural, rosy flush. I see it complementing a multitude of skin tones… A perfect dupe for MAC’s “Love Rush” if you ask me, and this one only costs a fraction of the price.

Clear Lip Gloss:
So here’s the thing: I’m a little obsessed with clear lip gloss. I never go without it– even on days when I don’t wear makeup. And the stickier the better (I don’t like to reapply often). I’m currently using MAC’s clear lipglass but if you wanna skip the 20$ price tag, I’d suggest getting Wet n’ Wild’s Glassy Gloss Lip Gel in “Through the Looking Glass”.

I have treacherously oily skin so I’m very serious about my cleansing game. I’m currently trying to simplify my beauty regimen (I just feel like putting too many different things on your face can’t be good for your skin…) so right now I’m using CeraVe foaming cleanser. It’s gentle on the skin and gets rid of all the gunk, just like a good cleanser should.

Lip balm:
My favorite is Cocoa Care Cocoa Butter Lip balm. It’s ultra moisturizing, gives your lips a nice sheen and smells great! I get them for two bucks at little beauty shops.

I rarely leave the house without spritzing something on. My altime favorite is Halle by Halle Berry, which is perfect for everyday wear. My other favorites include Nude by Rihanna, Warm Vanilla Sugar by Bath & Body Works and Coco Noire by Chanel.

Let me know about your personal beauty favorites (or if you know about a really good, super sticky gloss!) by commenting below. Take care and have a wonderful week!

L’Oreal Warehouse Sale Items

A few days ago, I went to the L’Oreal warehouse sale.  I’d never been before and had been invited by a friend and I’m a big fan of L’Oreal products (mainly they’re True Match foundation) so I couldn’t pass up this chance.  Now, as a girl, I sometimes tend to go overboard when it comes to makeup (I recently went from having 14 to only 8 blushes– look, a girl’s gotta have options) so it was really important for me to set some rules as well as a budget for myself:
The rules:
  • Only get items I use on a regular basis that way I know they won’t go to waste (like eyeliner, mascara or lotion)
  • Nothing that looks like anything I already own (when I last cleaned out my makeup box, I realized most of my blushers were a lot alike)
  • And lastly– no more blush
The budget:
  • 50 bucks and not a penny more
Once inside, my girl Isabel and I split up and got to work.  In the end, I made out with the following items:
1  Maybelline “The Colossal” Volum’ Express Mascara for $3.75
1  Maybelline “The Rocket” Volum’ Express Mascara for $3.75
2  Garnier Body Repair body lotion (250 ml and 700 ml) for $2 and $5
2  L’Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder for $4.75 each
2  L’Oreal Nail Laquers (in “Blue My Mind” & “Sexy In Sequins”)
2  Color Show Nail Lacquers (in Black N’ Mirrors for the limited edition Brocades Collection & Gilded Rose) for $2 each
And all of that for under 50 bucks!  I  was a little disappointed because there wasn’t really any eyeliner (well there was one, but I didn’t agree with the price-tag so I had to leave her behind…)  and I would’ve liked to see a bigger selection of actual L’Oreal items (most of the stuff on display was Biotherm, Maybelline, Garnier, and other stuff).  All in all though, for the amount of money I saved, I really can’t complain and I must say that I am very happy with my purchases and can’t wait to try em out.  As a matter of fact, I’m already trying to figure out how to plot my way into next year’s sale…
Random Sidebar:
I know it’s limited edition, but if you come across a bottle of Color Show’s “Black N’ Mirrors” do yourself a favor and get it! I wasn’t always into glitter (I used to feel like it was just for 12 years old girls and sometimes– I still do.  It’s also a pain to take off, but it it the prettiest mixture of gold and grey shimmer and glitter which makes it really worth it.
